Two people suffer minor wounds in overnight shootings

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Two people were hurt in separate shootings in Grand Rapids overnight Thursday to Friday.

In the first incident, the Grand Rapids Police Department reports officers heard gunshots around Oakdale Street and Eastern Avenue SE. A caller to the department said someone claimed to have a gun in a large crowd a couple of blocks away at Temple Street and Marshall Avenue SE.

Not long after, a 27-year-old woman showed up at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital with a gunshot wound to the ankle. She told police she hadn’t even noticed she had been shot until she went to get into a car.

Investigators located about 20 shell casings in the area of Adams Street and Marshall Avenue and in the 800 block of Adams.

In the second incident, a man with a gunshot wound in the arm arrived at Spectrum Blodgett Hospital around 12:36 a.m.. He said the was shot by people in a black vehicle, but the location he gave was vague.

It’s not known if the two shootings are related.
