MICHIGAN — Nearly two dozen businesses across Michigan have been cited for violating the state's workplace safety rules on COVID-19. That includes 6 companies in West Michigan.
Complete Roofing and Repair, Herzog Homes, Pro-Tech Environmental & Construction Services, and Santigo Roofing are all businesses located in Grand Rapids that received citations. Pro-Vision Solutions in Byron Center, and Omar Nonato of Kalamazoo were also fined.
The citations were filed by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
A planned inspection at a construction site in Baldwin left Pro-Tech Environmental & Construction Services with a $500 fine for not requiring workers to wear masks when social distancing wasn't possible.
Santigo Roofing received an $800 fine after a planned inspection at a project in Caledonia, though half of the fine is for COVID violations. The other $400 came for lack of a safety system for workers.
Another planned inspection in Caledonia left Complete Roofing and Repair with a similar fine; $400 for COVID violations and $400 for lack of a fall prevention system.
Omar Nonato of Kalamazoo received one of the biggest fines, totaling $3,900. According to MIOSHA he was not requiring workers to wear masks or social distance, and had no COVID response plan. Inspectors also say he had workers on the roof with no safety gear and using aluminum ladders near a live power line.
Herog Homes was hit with a $4,100 fine for not having a COVID response plan, not screening contractors before they came on-site, and not requiring social distancing.
Pro-Vision Solutions in Byron Center wil have to pay $1,500 after inspectors found little enforcement of mask wearing and social distancing at the company's facility.
