58,035 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 58,035.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 304 from yesterday, when there were 57,532 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 199 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,570 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 17 from yesterday, when there were 5,553 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 37 new deaths.

Statewide, 38,099 people have recovered from the virus as of May 29. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,847,412 cases, and there have been 107,023 deaths — while 463,868 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
