Biker hospitalized with possibly life-threatening injuries

NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A biker is in the hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a pickup Tuesday.

Police say Irving Duarte, 26, of Elkhart, Idiana, was in the southbound lane of S. 11th Street, making a left turn when he hit a Harley ridden by Ross Nieboer, 67, of Niles. Nieboer was riding the motorcycle north on S. 11th Street.

Nieboer was taken to Memorial Hospital in Indiana for what police are calling serious, possibly life-threatening injuries. Duarte was not injured in the crash.

The investigation into this crash continues, but drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved.
