Kids' Food Basketexpects to see an increase in need as we near the start of a new school year.

The organization has fed more than 365,000 healthy meals to keep kids' immune systems strong and their brains nourished since the start of COVID-19.

Right now, KFB is serving kids in more than 70 different sites all over Allegan, Kent, Muskegon and Ottawa counties and only expect that need to grow in the coming weeks.

"We are planning on an increased need, not just in August, but at the beginning of September and as the official school year begins, as well," explained Bridget Clark Whitney, founding executive director.

"Now, one of the reasons for that is that we have, between the four counties we serve, over 90,000 children in those four counties receive free or reduced school lunch each and every day. And, so when it gets repetitive that certainly increases the need."

Clark Whitney said they are being very intentional about where they set up distribution sites, trying to be in neighborhoods with higher populations of kids on free or reduced lunch programs, as well as near schools.

Kids' Food Basket is completely donor funded. There are a few ways to do so. One way to donate is to click here.
