ZEELAND, Mich. — Unity Christian hoped to bounce back in a big way on Friday night at Zeeland West. The Crusaders dropped an OK Green game, 54-51, to Zeeland East on the road on Tuesday.
The Crusaders wouldn't get off to a great start. In fact, head coach Scott Soodsma called it, "the worst half we've played in a long time at Unity Christian."
Soodsma's team would trail by as many as 22 points in the first half before coming back to win, 55-44.
"We challenged our kids at halftime, I said, 'this isn't the team we want to be, we want to go out there and play hard and play our game,'" Soodsma added. "I'm glad they responded, I couldn't be prouder of the kids, I thought our bench was huge tonight, they played big."
Zac Velthouse had a team-high 17 points in the win.
"We just needed to toughen up, we were playing weak, we needed to get back to how we were playing before with the toughness and confidence," Velthouse said.
The (8-2, 13-4) Crusaders finish OK Green play on Tuesday and Friday, both at home against Hamilton and Byron Center.
