WHITE CLOUD, Mich. — 2-year-old Kayden Blackmer died on May 11, 2020. Allegan County deputies are investigating his death as suspicious.

Joshua Duane Martin was charged in Allegan County court today on charges of 2nd degree child abuse for allegedly hurting Kayden's little sister Rosalee.

No charges are being issued in Kayden's death that this time.

Kayden's Dad, David Holmes, says he'll miss his little boy dearly.

“It’s been hard on me. He loved everybody…if he didn’t like you…he made it well known that he didn’t like you…but that was very rare,” Kayden's dad, David Holmes said.

Family says they remember Kayden for how his face would light up when he got to his grandmother's house.

"Whenever he would come in that back door as soon as he would see me he would go 'Momo!' Now I’m not going to here that again. It rips my heart out," Jamie Wachter said.

Memorials to commemorate Kayden's life are being set up at a loved one's home in Newaygo as well as at David's house in White Cloud.

“Losing Kayden destroyed very many people,” loved one Shirley Hartford said.

Kayden's family says they are hopeful people will contribute to the memorials to show support for this young life lost too soon.
