LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 54,881.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.
The number of cases has increased 202 from yesterday, when there were 54,679 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 314 new cases.
The state says there have been 5,240 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.
The number of deaths has increased 12 from yesterday, when there were 5,228 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 5 new deaths.
Statewide, 33,168 people have recovered from the virus as of May 22. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."
In the U.S., there are 1,653,390 cases, and there have been 97,940 deaths — while 366,736 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
