DETROIT, Mich — Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer has been named the American League Rookie of the year by the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Fulmer was 11-7 with a 3.06 ERA in 2016 making 26 starts with one complete game and 1 shutout. He struck out 132 in 159 innings pitched while walking only 42.
Fulmer beat out Gary Sanchez of the Yankees and Tyler Naquin of the Indians who were also finalists for the award.
