COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. -- Jose Zambrano delivered a two-out RBI single to score David Gonzalez for a walk-off 3-2 win Wednesday night in the best-of-three Midwest League Eastern Division semifinal series.
The Whitecaps bullpen fired 5 and 2/3 scoreless innings in the game. Starter Kyle Dowdy went 5 1/3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 runs, walking 3 and striking out 3.
Will Maddox was 3-5 with an RBI.
Game two is set for 7:05 p.m. Thursday night in South Bend.
