COMSTOCK PARK, Mich - Frank Tanana started his career with the California Angels as a hard thrower and had a lot if success but after an arm injury he reinvented himslef by the time he pitched for the Tiers form 1985 to 1992.
Tanana spoke about the change in philosophy Friday at Fifth Third Ballpark during his Tiger Fridays stop.
"You've gotta have a lot of belief in your stuff even though it's not overpowering stuff to be able to hit the corners and to be able to like 75 percent off speed stuff change ups, curve balls and if you throw enough of those even at eighty miles an hour it looks ninety five because you have thrown such slow stuff out there so it's a challenging way to pitch I much prefer the here it is hit it and I don't think you can and blowing it by people but most of my career was of challenging, finessing guys."
