WEST MICHIGAN – The hottest air of the season is headed for the area and a Heat Advisory has been posted for Thursday and Friday.
The Heat Advisory starts Thursday at 1 p.m. and continues through Friday at 7 p.m. A warm front will bring hotter and more humid air for both days with temperatures in the 90s and feel like temperatures around 100 degrees. The advisory may be continued in part of the weekend.
The last similar heat wave occurred three years ago in mid-July of 2013. Here are the numbers:

- July 17– 95
- July 18– 95
- July 19– 96
Kent County Emergency Management says that Heartside Cooling Centers will be available at Guiding Light Mission and Mel Trotter Ministries. For a complete schedule, click here.
Residents are being advised to check on their elderly family members and neighbors and also pets. You should never leave kids or animals in a parked vehicle unattended.
The Area Agency on Aging of West Michigan may also be able to provide air conditioners or fans to residents ages 60 or older. You can call 616-459-6019 if you need assistance. The Heart of West Michigan United Way may also be able to help you if you call 211.
