Wyoming High School hosts 5th Annual Play for Melanoma Games

WYOMING, Mich -- The Wyoming High School varsity baseball and softball teams hosted the 6th annual Play for Melanoma Games Friday at Pinery Park.

The games are played in hononr of Christy Paganelli who lost her battle with cancer in 2011.  Christy was a standout softball player Rogers in the 1980's and went on to play at Aquinas College.

Players wore special jersey's with names of loved ones that battled some type of disease.

This years opponent was Grandville high schoo where Christy's sons Brady, a junior second baseman on the varsity, and Jake, a freshman catcher on the junior varsity, play.

"It is definitely a mixed emotion, it's nice to see the kids be able to play." Christy's husband and Brady and Jake's dad Dino Paganelli said.  "I spoke to Grandville's players earlier this week, I've done that at every year I go and speak to the visiting team to spread the word of Melanoma and awareness event and it was a little different speaking in front of my son in regards to the memory of his mother, for the event."
