BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Lane closures will return to US-131 in Mecosta County April 11 after drivers headed up north endured a couple of road construction seasons with detours and lane closures for a bridge project and resurfacing.

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans repairs to northbound US-131 from 6 Mile Road mile 129 to 13 Mile Road mile 136 from April 11 through August 11. In addition to resurfacing, MDOT plans upgrades to the highway’s guardrails, drainage, and bridge approaches.

Closures of the ramps at northbound US-131 and 8 Mile Road for five-day periods will take place, but MDOT has not said when that will happen.

In 2014 and 2015, the expressway was frequently closed for rebuilding the bridges over the Muskegon River, and in 2015 a resurfacing project slowed traffic north of Big Rapids.
