JENISON, Mich. – It’s true what they say: Good things happen to good people. And that’s exactly what happened to Herm Kent Monday; a very good thing.
“I have lots of fabulous friends, obviously,” Kent said. “And family.”
Herm, a 38-year employee of Kent Companies and caretaker to his wife who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, got a brand new driveway, deck, barn and landscaping, all thanks to his family and co-workers. It was a labor of love from people who tell us there’s no one more deserving.
“The guy just goes above and beyond so many times without asking,” said Chris Fennema, vice president of Kent Companies. “It was so much fun to do this and to know that we pulled off the secret and he was able to come home and see it in the daylight. Just super special to all of us.”
Herm had been down in Kentucky visiting family. FOX 17 was at his home – one he barely recognized – when he pulled up today.
“I saw all the cars, and I thought, How am I going to back this mobile home into the driveway with all these cars in the way?” said Kent. “Then I saw the driveway, and I thought, You’ve got to be kidding me!”
“This is just amazing. I had no idea I would come home to this.”
