Grand Rapids Christian held off defending state champion South Christian 32-28 in the season opener for both teams Friday night. The Eagles got out to a 25-6 half-time lead before the Sailors scored 22-straight second half points, including a 63-yard interception return for a touchdown by Tarik Williams to a take a 28-25 lead early in the 4th quarter. South Christian maintaned a three-point lead until the final minute when Jordan Smith scored on a 4-yard touchdown, his third of the game, for the game winning score.
