World record now belongs to West Michigan teen

COLDWATER, Mich. — Pending a few formalities, a new Guinness world record now belongs to West Michigan. And it’s all thanks to a young member of the Coldwater community.

Today, 14-year-old Stuart Sobeske broke the world record for most Rubik’s Cubes solved while riding a unicycle. Stuart has been riding and solving cubes since he was a young kid – his dad said he was doing it long before he even knew there was an existing record. The previous record was 28 cubes solved, held by Adrian Leonard of Belfast, Ireland. Today, Stuart completed 80 cubes before they ran out, taking him about an hour.

The record was attempted at Branch County Memorial Airport on a closed off section of an old runway.  Now, Stuart has to wait about eight weeks for Guinness to review the footage and certify the record.
