GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-The Home Builders Association of Greater Grand Rapids is part of a group of organizations hosting a first ever Construction Only Job Fair.  It will be held June 25 at the Michigan Works building in Grand Rapids, 215 Straight Ave. NW, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

As Nelson VanElderen of the HBAGGR told FOX 17, there simply aren't enough skilled workers to keep up with the construction growth.

"Along with that comes the shortage of labor, the need for all the different subcontractors and trades people and that's where the problem has been. Finding people to do the work so we have builders coming in saying, 'I need framers,  I need carpenters, I need this I need that.'  Everything I've seen has said the double digit increase in the housing market is going to continue for the immediate or near future," he said.

VanElderen added it's not only residential but also commercial construction that is growing in west Michigan.  He adds that many of the jobs they're looking to fill at the job fair are full-time, and they welcome all levels of experience.
