Caledonia beats Farmington Hills Mercy, advances to the state championship game

EAST LANSING, Mich -- The Caledonia softball team used timely hitting and solid pitching to beat Farmington Hills Mercy, 5-2, Friday at Michigan State's Secchia Stadium.

The Fighting Scots got the scoring started with an RBI double from Dani Oracz in the top of the 2nd inning.  They added 2 runs in the 5th and a solo home run from McKenzie Butgureit made it 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the 6th.

The Marlins scored twice in the 6th, but Lexie Lieske drove in another run in the top of the 7th.  Lieske had 2 hits and that RBI, Ashley Miller also had 2 hits and an RBI.

Freshman Sammy Gehrls got the win pitching a complete game allowing 9 hits, 2 runs, both earned, walked one and struck out 8.

Caledonia (34-4) will play the Warren Regina (26-16) winner Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the division 1 state championship game.
