Davenport baseball team advances to NAIA World Series

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich -- The Davenport baseball team is headed to the NAIA World Series for the first time in school history thanks to an 11-4 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan Friday at the Farmers Athletic Complex.

The Panthers fell behind 4-0, but rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th and took the lead for good on a 2-run home run from Brandon Cable (Hudsonville) in the bottom of the 6th.

Corey Murphy (West Catholic) earned the win in relief, pitching 4 and 2/3 innings in relief allowing just one run.  Murphy is the teams number one pitcher and started and won the first game of the regional on Tuesday.

Cable finished 2-5 with 3 RBI, Brendan Bender (Grandville) was 3-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI and Zac Sardellitti was 3-4 with 2 RBI.

Davenport (51-10) will now play in Lewiston, Idaho in the World Series next Friday against an opponent to be determined.
