ALTO, Mich. -- A 39-year-old Caledonia Township man is in custody after an alleged incident where he fled police, crashed head-on into a parked Kent County Sheriff's patrol car, and disappeared.
Online arrest records identify the man as Scott William Baer.
The sequence of events began at the corner of Whitneyville Avenue and 68th Street when a woman called police. She believed someone was breaking into the car wash at the corner.
He and the car he took were later located in Wyoming, said the Kent County Sheriff's Department.
When deputies arrived and noticed someone in a Saturn Vue at a nearby business, that man took off.
After pursuing the car upwards of 85 miles per hour, deputies broke off the chase. The unoccupied SUV was found crashed on 92nd Avenue at Lakefield Court, a private drive.
A Wyoming Police dog was called in, and during the search for the suspect, the suspect in another car came speeding down the drive and crashed into a deputy's parked cruiser.
The suspect continued in the stolen car west on 92nd Street, and police lost him near Alden Nash Avenue.
The suspect and the car he took were later located in Wyoming, said the Kent County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies told FOX 17 the suspect has a record for breaking and entering.
Sgt. Randy Kieft's cruiser suffered minor damage to the grille, and he told FOX 17 he was fine.
Online arrest records show Baer has several prior convictions for breaking and entering into a coin operated device in both Rockford and other areas of Kent County.
