ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man is recovering in the hospital after an alleged drunk driver drove up and struck him from behind on the highway.
Jose Garcia-Perez, 47, from Comstock Park, was driving westbound on I-196 east of Byron Road Saturday morning when another vehicle sped up behind him and struck the back of his car, police say. This caused Garcia’s car to leave the road and end up in a ditch.
The driver of this second vehicle is said to be a 35-year-old man from Grand Rapids. He was not injured. His passenger, Hugh Idalfki, 47, of Wyoming, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
The driver of the at-fault vehicle was taken into custody for operating while intoxicated.
