EAST LANSING, Mich -- Godwin Heights used an 11-1 run midway through the 4th quarter to knock of defending class B state champion Milan and advance to Saturday's championship game.
Junior guard Leon Redd scored 7 of his 19 points during the 4th quarter run, senior Delaney Blaylock also added 19 points including a put back with 2:34 left that gave the Wolverines the lead for good. "The biggest thing was just not to panic, we've been in tough games all season long and we battle everyday in practice and we have to play a full 32 minutes and never take any plays off and the ball will find hustle" head coach Tyler Whittemore said.
Godwin Heights (25-1) used it's press to force 21 Milan turnovers.
Senior forward Mike Williams added 13 points and 13 rebounds and Blaylock grabbed 12 rebounds. "I felt comfortable, when I walked in it was just like how I remembered it I was just comfortable being here like I've been here before" Blaylock said.
Milan senior big man Nick Perkins led all scorers with 21 points and senior guard Latin Davis chipped in17 points. "I always thought that we had a better team, they just had two better players. I'm not taking anything way from their other players but that was their main two players that they go to to score so we just tried to take them out and simmer them down and they have to guard us too, they have to guard our whole team because we are running up and down the court" Williams said.
Godwin Heights will play Detroit Henry Ford (21-5), who beat Cadillac 64-38, in the class B state Championship game at 6:30 P.M. on Saturday.
