GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A former substitute teacher at Kent City Elementary School has pleaded not guilty to four counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct.  Jon Ira Dalton, 67, of Newaygo, faces the charges after an alleged incident last October.

According to the Kent City Community Schools Superintendent Mike Weiler, a staff member immediately notified a community liaison offer claiming to have seen Dalton inappropriately touch a student. An investigation turned up four young girls who accused Dalton of touching them inappropriately over their clothing.

In court on Wednesday, Kent County Assistant Prosecutor Travis Earley presented Dalton with a plea deal of one count of second degree CSC.  Earley said he made the offer to keep the young victims from having to testify in court.

Dalton, who is due back in court in one month, has yet to decide whether to take the plea, which could carry a sentence of up to 15 years in prison, or go to trial.
