OTSEGO, Mich. -- A driver stopped by a Michigan State trooper took off early Tuesday and ended up crashing into a tree.
The suspect wound up in the hospital and faces charges.
The trooper stopped the driver on southbound US-131 near 106th Avenue and saw open intoxicants in the car. The driver, believed to have been under the influence of drugs, also had no license.
At that point, the suspect took off, left the freeway at M-89 and headed west.
He didn't get far.
The car left the street and slammed into a tree in the front lawn of a home.
The injured suspect was taken to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo and was reported to be alert enough to be talking.
No other vehicles were damaged, and no one else was hurt.
Charges are pending.
