GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It’s definitely a time of mixed emotions for parents, guardians and children; a new school year.

If you have some last-minute items to snag, here a few great bargains I found for the week of August 24-30 near Grand Rapids. The sites allow you to type in your zip code in order to find your weekly ad.

School Supplies:

Office Max/Office Depot:  Spiral notebooks for just a penny along with 12 to 24 packs of mechanical pencils for just a quarter. Another great deal is reams of printing paper for just $4. A limit of three per day for a household or business.

Target: Buy One Get One Half-Off on select items from Crayola to Sharpies.

Dollar General: Select styles for $8. On Friday Aug. 29-30, print off a coupon to receive $5 off when you spend $25. You can also text 5OFF to 34898.

Walmart: Select styles starting at $6.88

Price Comparison Tool:

Just seven days from the time you purchase school supplies and beyond at Walmart, you can either type in your receipt number on savings catcher or download the Walmart app and scan it. Walmart will scan nearby stores to compare prices. If others have a better price, you will get an eGift Card containing the difference.

JCPenney:  $29.99 kids’ glasses up to $120 along with free impact and scratch resistant polycarbonate lenses. Thousands of vision care plans accepted.

Zenni Optical: This is one of my absolute favorite places to get stylish glasses for a very inexpensive price. Not to mention, they have all of the latest styles that start as low as $6.95.

Meijer: NCAA licensed college gear is Buy One, Get One 1/2 off along with other great necessities ranging from socks and underwear, too.

Target: Kids’ Shoes are Buy One, Get One Half-Off

JCPenney: Kids cuts are just $10 through Sept. 6. You can walk-in or make an appointment online.
