New road projects affect traffic on I-96, I-196, M-37

PORTLAND, Mich. — Drivers will find new projects on highways this week, and one of the projects will affect drivers heading to and from Lansing and Detroit.

I-96 in Portland

  • Lane closures eastbound and westbound between Knox Road to the west of Portland and Cutler Road to the east of Portland
  • Through Thursday at noon
  • July 27-31

I-196 in Hudsonville

  • Ramp from eastbound I-196 to eastbound M-6
  • One lane closed on ramp
  • Daily 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • July 28 – August 1

M-37 in Sparta

  • Lane closure on northbound M-37 at Sparta Avenue
  • Sparta Avenue closed north of the intersection
  • Round the clock through mid-August
  • Detour: Use M-37 and 12 Mile for access to Sparta Avenue

I-196 in Grand Rapids and Wyoming

  • Lane closures each night on westbound I-196 between Market Avenue and Chicago Drive
  • Monday night through Friday night, ending Saturday 6 a.m.
  • July 28 – August 2

M-37 Broadmoor Avenue in Kentwood

  • Lane closures on Broadmoor Avenue between 28th Street and 29th Street with traffic shift
  • Monday and Tuesday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Traffic shift continues Wednesday – Friday
  • July 28 – August 1

Other projects:

  • Nightime lane closures on Plainfield Avenue north of Airway Street to Northland Drive, Northland Drive north of Plainfield Avenue, Wolverine Boulevard between West River Drive and Belding Road, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Wednesday night
  • Patterson Avenue closed between 100th Street and 108th Street through September 26
  • James Street closed between 132nd Avenue and 136th Avenue, Holland, for railroad crossing reconstruction through July 31.
  • 10 Mile Road closed between Courtland Drive and Myers Lake Avenue until the end of August
