WEST MICHIGAN (June 14, 2014) — While sunshine is in the forecast for a majority of Father’s Day, the clouds will thicken through the mid/late afternoon and some showers and thunderstorms are possible by evening. Again…a majority of the day looks dry. Any storms we see will arrive at the lakeshore first, perhaps as early as the late afternoon/early evening.
That trend of unsettled weather will set the stage for more showers and thunderstorms throughout much of the upcoming week. A frontal system will be draped across the state and be the focal point of several rounds of showers and thunderstorms each day next week. In fact, the two concerns we have is the possibility of flooding as storms “train” over the same locations, and also severe weather.
We can also expect increased heat and humidity as temperatures rise in to the mid 80s throughout the week. That extra heat and moisture in the atmosphere will help to fuel storms from time to time. So how have the past several decades shaped up weatherwise for Father’s Day? Let’s take a look:
The warmest Father’s Day occurred on June 19, 1988 with a high temperature of 92 degrees. The coolest Father’s Day was June 16, 1974 at 55 degrees. And the wettest Father’s Day was June 15, 1975 with 2.01 inches of rain recorded. These numbers are for Grand Rapids. To see Muskegon and Lansing click here.
