Kalamazoo Christian Tops Vestaburg, Advances To Softball State Championship Game

EAST LANSING, Mich (June 13, 2014) — Kalamazoo Christian defeated Vestaburg 6-1 in a division 4 state semifinal game Thursday afternoon at Michigan State University’s Secchia Stadium.

The Comets scored 2 runs in the 1st inning and 4 more in the 3rd.  Vestaburg’s only run came in the top of the 4th.

K-Christian starting pitcher Rebekah VanDam went the distance allowing just 4 hits, 1 earned run while walking 1 and striking out 12.  Aliyah Lemmer led the Comets offensive attack with 2 hits and 3 RBI.

Jannelle Rons pitched a complete game for Vestaburg allowing 5 hits, 4 earned runs, she walked 3 and struck out 5.  Karigan Gates had 2 hits and scored the Wolverines only run.

Kalamazoo Christian (28-16) will play either Fowler or Rogers City in Saturday’s championship game at 5 PM.  Vestaburg finishes the season at 27-9.
