Beal City beats Kalamazoo Christian In Baseball Semifinals

EAST LANSING, Mich (June 13, 2014) — Kalamazoo Christian’s improbable run in the baseball state tournament ended Friday morning in the division 4 state semifinal as the Comets lost to Beal City, 11-1 in 6 innings at Michigan State University’s Kobs Field.

The Comets struggled defensively, committing 5 errors and allowing 8 unearned runs.

Stephen Niewoonder started on the mound for K-Christian and threw the first 3 and 1/3 innings allowing 8 runs, just 1 earned, he walked 4 and struck out 2.  Eli Keller finished up on the mound allowing 3 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.

The Comets scored their lone run in the top of the 6th on an RBI ground out from Greg Harris.

Kalamazoo Christian finishes the season 18-18, Beal City will play either New Lothrop or Maple City Glen Lake in Saturday’s championship game.
