EAST LANSING, Mich (June 12, 2014) — Gina Verduczo pitched a complete game no-hitter and drove in the only run of the game in Portage Central’s 1-0 win over Utica Ford Thursday morning at Michigan State University’s Secchia Stadium. She says she didn’t even realize she had a no-hitter going. “No, I don’t notice, my job is to hit my spots and get outs and that’s all I noticed during the game” Verduczo said.
Verduczo did walk 2 in the game, somewhat surprising considering she had only walked 5 all season entering Thursday, she also struck out 11.
“I’m really proud of my team because obviously they had a lot of balls in play, they are great hitters, I just had to do my job and I know my team had my back all game” Verduczo added.
Verduczo lined a solid single to right with 1 out in the top of the 6th to score Lea Forster for the only run of the game.
Portage Central will play the Bay City Western in the championship game Saturday at 10 AM at Secchia Stadium.
