MUSKEGON, Mich (May 12, 2014) — The class A state champion Muskegon basketball team was honored Monday by MaxPreps.com with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy.
“That was an ultimate goal of ours to be recognized on the national level, these guys have accomplished it, they deserve it, you see how hard these guys worked there’s no secret why they’re here” Muskegon head coach Keith Guy said.
Muskegon finished ranked 30th in the MaxPreps rankings and was 1 of 10 schools honored. The Big Reds finished the 2013-2014 season 28-0 and senior guard Deshaun Thrower was named Mr. Basketball.
“We’re not at the top yet, I’m gone but I know that the underclassmen are going to work to get to that number 1 spot so there’s a lot to improve on” graduating guard Jordan Waire said.
Thrower was not at the ceremony as he has already met all of his academic high school requirements and is at Stony Brook University where he will be a feshman on the basketball team in the fall.
