GALESBURG, Mich. (March 27, 2014) — The Michigan Department of Transportation has been looking at replacing the bridge at the interchange of I-94 and 40th Street in Charleston Township. A public meeting to discuss the study is planned for Thursday.
The bridge in Kalamazoo County is tentatively scheduled for replacement in 2016.
The interchange has an unusual layout. The bridge carries E. Michigan Avenue over I-94 at a diagonal, but exit and entrance ramps do not directly feed to Michigan Avenue. The ramps are connected to 40th Street, which runs north-south but does not pass over I-94; the street ends on each side of the expressway, while Michigan Avenue makes a little jog around the south side of the interchange.
The public meeting with MDOT representatives will be at the Charleston Township Hall, 1499 S. 38th Street, Galesburg, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
