EAST LANSING, Mich (March 22, 2014) — Muskegon completed a perfect season Saturday with a 91-67 win over Bloomfield Hills claiming the 2014 class A state championship in boys basketball. It’s the 1st boys basketball state title for the Big Reds since 1937.
Muskegon (28-0) was dominant from the beginning jumping out to a 10 point lead after the 1st quarter (25-15) and were never really threatened after. Junior center Deyonta Davis scored 26 points on 12-14 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds playing on his future home court. Davis, a junior, is verbally committed to Michigan State.
Bloomfield Hills’ 6’8″ center Yante Maten was hampered by fouls and played just 18 minutes finishing with 13 points and 5 rebounds.
Mr. Basketball winner Deshaun Thrower had 21 points for the Big Reds, Will Roberson scored 17 points and was 10-10 from the free throw line, Joeviair Kennedy had 14 points for the 2nd straight day.
Big Reds head coach Keith Guy said the team will have a celebration in Muskegon Sunday afternoon at 4 PM.
