GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (March 19, 2014) — The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WATCH for Kent and Ottawa Counties through Friday morning for areas along the Grand River.

The flood watch is in response to reports that large chunks of ice are moving down the river and there may be an ice jam at the M-21 Street bridge in Ada. The movement is a result of sunshine, warmer temperatures, and rain the over the last few days. Rapid fluctuations in water levels can result with an ice jam. Those living along the Grand River or adjacent to it should monitor water levels over the next two days.

Early Thursday, NWS said what ice jam that appeared to be developing was breaking up.
