GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer is giving children the chance to star in an upcoming commercial alongside its iconic penny horse, Sandy.

The Midwest retailer is asking customers to submit photos to their Facebook page of their children or their younger selves riding Sandy.

The “Star with Sandy” contest is open through Feb. 6.  According to a release, all photos will be considered for the commercial, and ten submissions will receive a $100 Meijer gift card.

“We look forward to sharing these special moments in our advertising, to help us say ‘hello’ to new neighbors and bring a smile to seasoned Sandy riders in the communities we’ve served for much longer,” said Vice President of Brand Development Nicole Laughlin.

The mechanical horse has been a fixture in Meijer stores for decades.

“Riding Sandy is a memory shared by so many children and parents who shop at our stores,” said Meijer Co-Chairman Doug Meijer, “but the real magic happens when those children grow up and bring their own kids back for a ride.”
