CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A state trooper was injured when his cruiser was struck on I-96 westbound near M-6.

Michigan State Police confirmed the trooper from the Rockford post was hurt when his car was struck while he was inside it and parked on the right shoulder of the highway. While traffic was generally moving in the left lane, one driver tried to bypass the slower traffic by shifting over to the right lane and accelerating. But the driver lost control and slammed into the trooper’s car.

The trooper, who was not identified by MSP, was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.
