BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An accident between a car and a grain auger has sent one man to the hospital on Tuesday night.

The crash happened at W. Grand River Avenue near Bliss Road.  The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office says a 32-year-old man from Byron Center was towing a 72-foot grain auger behind his truck, when he made a turn into a driveway.  It appears the auger did not clear the road all the way, and a 1999 Cadillac sedan driven by a 64-year-old man from Saranac crashed into it.

The auger tipped over in the ditch, while the sedan suffered extensive damage.  The driver was trapped inside.  When crews managed to free him, he was flown to the hospital for treatment.  He was last listed in stable condition.

The man who was towing the auger was uninjured.
