Well, it was just a matter of time.
Now that Macy’s has made it official, that it will open on Thanksgiving evening, you knew what was going to happen next.
Now, entire malls are jumping on the early Black Friday bandwagon. It all means the traditionalists who were hoping to stop Black Friday’s spread are losing the battle.
Despite petition drives the past two years, even more stores are planning a Thanksgiving opening this year.

Thanksgiving openings everywhere
Mall anchors Macy’s and JC Penney will open at 8 p.m. on turkey day.
Now a growing number of malls are planning to open with them, as it only makes sense. If your anchors are open, you need to open the hallway between them.
That means many mall stores will also be raising their gates at 8 or 9 p.m. as well.
And, once again, Walmart, Target, and Toys r Us will also launch their sales Thursday evening. (Best Buy has not announced a time yet).

Who is to blame?
And from the “doesn’t that stink” file, why are stores giving in to Black Friday creep, despite hundreds of thousands of petition signatures asking them to stop it?
Time Magazine says it is not Macy’s fault. Forbes Magazine says American shoppers “can blame only themselves.”

Forbes says 28 percent of Black Friday shoppers went out on Thanksgiving last year. So, if a store misses Thursday night, it loses a lot of money, potentially millions of dollars.
Forbes says that’s why Macy’s is opening Thursday.

Are these early shopping hours all a bit too much for you? Then stay home.
Some Black Friday websites are saying Macy’s will offer the same deals again on Saturday morning after Black Friday.
That way you don’t miss Thanksgiving and you don’t waste your money.
