Smart Shopper: Grocery, Dining and Gift Savings

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — For one reason or another, going to the grocery store or shopping in general can be a painful experience for some. Either it’s the money you’ll be dropping, the time that it takes to shop, or the crowds.

As West Michigan’s Smart Shopper, I scoured ads to find some savings for this week. You’ll see a few suggestions on great places to dine out without breaking the bank, too. But before you head out, there are two web sites you’ll want to check out: coupons.com and thekrazycouponlady.com.

Here are some great grocery and gift savings:

Meijer: 10 for $10 on select items and get an 11th item free! This ranges from Chobani yogurt to bagged spinach, all the way to cake mixes and Coke products. Plus, it’s never too early to start stocking up on frozen snacks for the holidays. Super Pretzels, frozen soft pretzels, are buy one get one free.

Aldi: Speaking of the holidays, gobble up those frozen turkeys now! Butterball Premium Young Turkeys are just .99 cents per pound. Other great grabs include are bananas for 35 cents per pound along with whole pineapples for $1.49 each.

Family Fare : Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts for $1.99 with your YES Rewards Card. Also, go to their website and sign up for digital coupons that you can clip on the Internet. They automatically come off in the store when you buy that item and swipe your card.

It’s never too early to start snagging Christmas items for friends and family, too.

Big Lots: Select DVDs are just $2.88.

Family Dollar: Buy one get one free on all toys that are $5 and up. Plus, now through Nov. 9 you can clip a coupon that gives you $5 off any purchase of $25 or more.

Looking for somewhere different for lunch, but need to stay on budget? Here you go:

Z’s Bar, downtown Grand Rapids: Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. they have a $6.49 lunch combo that includes a half sandwich along with items ranging from a half house salad to a cup of soup.  For $6.99 they have a lunch wrap with sides, along with a cheese burger basket and lunch burrito.

Perrin Brewing, Comstock Park: It’s Taco Mondays! $1.25 steak or veggie tacos along with fresh salsa. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4p.m. you can have a number of items off of the $5.99 lunch menu. Pitchers of beer are $3 off all Monday, too.

Fujiyama, Grand Rapids: Half off select sushi and specialty rolls. They also have a discounted lunch menu, including the hibachi, Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bagger Dave’s (various locations) : Every Wednesday and Sunday, kids get half off when they dine in. Tuesday is now known as Turkday because you can get $1 off a turkey burger that you create.
