Jason Vander Laan leads Ferris State to win in Anchor Bone Classic

BIG RAPIDS, Mich — Sophomore quarterback Jason Vander Laan rushed for 210 yards and threw for another 118 and accounted for 4 touchdowns in Ferris State’s 54-44 win over Grand Valley State at a rain soaked Top Taggart Field on Saturday night.

The win is the 2nd straight in the series for the Bulldogs who improve to 4-2 on the season and 4-1 in the GLIAC.  GVSU falls to 4-2 and 2-2 in the GLIAC.

The Lakers led twice on the night, 3-0 in the 1st quarter and 23-20 in the 3rd after Kirk Spencer (East Grand Rapids) returned a kickoff 101 yards for a score.  Vander Laan quickly follwed the kick return with a touchdown pass to Jake Lampman and James Stewart returned a Heath Parling interception 62 yards for a score to secure the win for Ferris.  Parling completed 14 of 28 passes for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns, Brandan Green caught 5 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown.  Lampman had 6 catches for 76 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State will play at Hillsdale next Saturday while GVSU will host Northern Michigan for homecoming.
