DETROIT, Mich — The Detroit Tigers have announced the release of relief pitcher Jose Valverde.
Valverde appeared in 20 games with the Tigers this season posting a 5.59 E.R.A. in 19 and 1/3 innings.
Papa Grande had been pitching for Toledo since his demotion on June 20.
Valverde did save 119 games for the Tigers over the last 4 seasons including a perfect 49-49 in 2011.
