Explore Japanese Culture at Kalamazoo Institute of Arts

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is partnering with Western Michigan University for a free Japanese Culture Day from 1p.m. to 4 p.m. on July 13 at the KIA.

Volunteers with WMU’s Soga Center will help with fun activities such as making sushi rolls, a Japanese calligraphy, trying on a traditional summer rob called a yukata and clogs, create origami and make a Japanese fish print called Gyotaku.

You can also check out the “Modern Twist: Contemporary Japanese Bamboo Art” exhibition. The cost for that is $5 for adults, $2 for 13 & up along with college students and free for KIA members/active military/children under the age of 13.
