BATTLE CREEK, Mich — Jamie Bristol had 2 hits and an RBI but it wasn’t enough as Madison Heights Bishop Foley scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th and beat Calvin Christian 12-5 for the division 3 baseball state championship Saturday.
After falling behind 3-0, the Squires came back in the top of the 3rd scoring on a wild pitch and sacrafice fly from Josh Deyoung to cut the lead to 3-2. After the Ventures, big 4th inning, Calvin fought back for 3 in the top of the 5th with RBI’s by Bristol and Ross VanSolkema to make it a 9-5 game, but the Squires could get no closer.
Calvin Christian (24-4) had a fine season and will gradute really good players like P/3B Deyoung, P/LF Cole Boender and 2B Brad Visser, but will return a very good nucleus next season.
Bishop Foley (35-2) became the 1st school in MHSAA history to win 3 consecutive state championships in baseball.
