SYRACUSE, NY — 6 different Griffins scored and Grand Rapids won game 2 of the Calder Cup Finals at War Memorial at Oncenter Sunday night. The Griffins will come home for games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) with a 2-0 series lead.
Tomas Tatar got the scoring started less than 5 minutes into the 1st period. Tristan Grant scored off a rebound later in the 1st and Grand Rapids led 2-1 after 1 period.
The Griffins got goals from Landon Ferraro and Tomas Jurco in the 2nd period to build a 4-2 lead. The Crunch scored on the power play to make it 4-3, minutets later the game was delayed as the officials checked the video and awarded the Crunch a goal 2 seconds before the power play goal that made it 4-3. The clock was rest to 3:50 and the teams finished the period with Francis Pare putting the Griffins back in front 5-4. The Crunch goal that was allowed upon review was later switched to later in the 2nd period.
Jan Mursak scored the 3rd periods’ only goal with just over 5 minutes to play.
Game 3 will be Wednesday night at 7 P.M. at Van Andel Arena. The Griffins will have 3 chances to win 2 games to clinch the Cup on home ice.
