KENTWOOD, Mich. — The woman who stopped to help at a crash scene Thursday and was killed when she was run down was identified by police as Margaret Pittman, 50, of Grand Rapids.

Pittman died when one of the drivers involved in Thursday’s crash tried to drive off and hit her several times. The driver was kept from leaving the scene.

There has been no decision on whether charges will be filed.

Pittman had stopped at the scene around 3:45 p.m. A pickup driven by a 76-year-old Grand Rapids woman had pulled out of a driveway and crossed East Paris Avenue. Her truck was hit by a southbound GMC Yukon driven  by a 31-year-old man. After stopping, Pittman tried to grab the driver-side door handle when the truck accelerated and ran over Pittman.
