LUDINGTON, Mich. — Bones were found in the area of Morton Road and Chauvez Road southeast of Ludington last Friday, and one bone was identified as possibly from a human skull.

A forensic anthropologist viewed photos of the bones and made the identification, said the Mason County Sheriff’s Department. But the fragment appears to be from a skull too large for a child, said the department in a statement.

The discovery immediately brings to mind the search for baby Kate, who disappeared from the area in 2011.

In all, twelve bones were found, but the expert only identified one as being human. There was no tissue attached to the bones.

The bones are being taken to the forensic anthropologist for examination and testing.

FOX 17 spoke with Baby Kate’s mother, Ariel Courtland. Mason County authorities told her the bones are not Baby Kate, she said.
