HOLLAND, Mich. — Scheduled lane closures over the weekend didn’t happen on I-196, but scheduled lane closures on US-131 and I-96 are expected to pop up as scheduled today.
Work on the 96th Avenue bridge over I-196 in Zeeland wasn’t completed by Friday as scheduled, and the lane closure at the bridge eastbound and westbound remained in place over the weekend. As a result, the Michigan Department of Transportation cancelled scheduled lane closures for repaving on the expressway from 64th Avenue to the Allegan County line.
Lane closures on I-196 at 96th Avenue were expected to be removed around noon Monday. The project will not start up until Friday, May 31, said MDOT’s John Richard.
Meanwhile, lane closures were scheduled to begin on I-96 in Ionia County for concrete repairs, as reported here last week. The lane closures will take place between the Kent County lane and mile 63 west of the Jordan Lake Avenue exit.
Work will be done at night through July 3.
Lane closures will begin Monday on southbound US-131 for pothole repairs. Crews will be working on the expressway from the Kent County line to the Wayland exit 64. Work should be done by about noon Thursday.
Most construction crews are expected to have the Memorial Day weekend off from Friday to Tuesday morning, May 28.
