SARANAC, Mich. — Repairs to the concrete pavement on I-96 begin Monday in western Ionia County, and you can expect lane closures through July 3.

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to patch up the road bed along 7.3 miles of expressway eastbound and westbound between the Kent/Ionia county line and the eastbound Saranac Rest Area at mile 63.

Each week, lane closures will affect a different three-mile segment as the work proceeds. There will be times where it looks like no work is getting done, but that’s when the concrete patches will be curing, says MDOT.

But you can count on no delays on the weekends. The project plan calls for two lanes of traffic from noon each Thursday through Sunday night.
