HOLLAND, Mich — Trine scored a run on a groundout in the top of the 11th inning to beat Calvin 4-3 at Boeve Stadium in the MIAA Tournament Thursday afternoon.  The infield was in for Calvin when the winning run scored but the ball was not hit hard and shortstop Jalen Bouma had to go a little to his left to get it and decided to take the out at 1st.

Calvin (16-25) trailed 1-0 until the bottom of the 6th inning when senior right fielder Ben Cok (Grand Rapids Christian) gave the Knights the lead with a 2-run single with the bases loaded.  Freshman center fielder Grant Van Putten (Holand Christian) added an RBI double in the 7th to make it 3-1, but Trine (23-19) rallied to tie the game in the top of the 8th inning.

Calvin starting pitcher Grant VanderWall (South Christian) pitched well, leaving the game with a 3-1 lead with 1 out in the top of the 8th inning.  VanderWall finished the day allowing 2 runs and not factoring into the decision.  Cory Laster (Ludington) allowed 1 run and 3 hits over 1/3 of an innings.  Jeff Victor (Holland Christian) went the final 3 and 1/3 allowing just one run taking the loss.  Phil Stakely pitched the final 5 innings for Trine allowing 1 run to get the victory.  Trine starting pitcher Kale Popp pitched 6 innings allowing 2 runs.

Trine advances to play Hope in an elmination game at 4:30 P.M. Thursday at Boeve Stadium.  Calvin’s season comes to an end.
